Cambodia's Corn Farmers Worry About El Nino's Impact on Crops

Cambodian corn farmers are facing a tough decision as drought and El Nino threaten their crops. With some areas already affected by drought, farmers are cutting back on land or abandoning corn altogether.

Banteay Meanchey farmer Sieang Ra plans to halve the amount of land he cultivates next season after his corn harvest fell by 40 percent this season due to drought. He cited high farming costs and unstable market prices as additional challenges.

Ra's decision reflects a growing dilemma for farmers across Cambodia, where prolonged dry conditions and the threat of El Nino make rain-dependent farming increasingly risky.
