Canada and Germany Ink Major LNG Deal
Canada and Germany have signed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) deal, marking a significant milestone in Ottawa's efforts to diversify its energy markets beyond the US.
The agreement will see Germany's Uniper SE purchase 2 million tonnes of LNG for 20 years from the proposed Indigenous-led Ksi Lisims LNG terminal in British Columbia, with deliveries expected to begin in 2032.
This deal is a major step towards increasing Canada's natural gas exports to non-US markets, which are currently virtually zero. Ottawa aims to raise this share to an estimated 55% by the early- to mid-2030s.
