Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen led a trade mission to Japan and the Philippines in an effort to grow markets for beef, pork, ethanol, corn, and wheat. During the trip, the governor focused on promoting Nebraska's agricultural products, particularly ethanol, which is becoming increasingly popular in Asia as countries phase in higher blends of biofuels.

Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue accompanied Governor Pillen on the trip and highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong presence in these markets. Japan remains a major customer for Nebraska's corn, beef, and pork, while the Philippines offers growth potential with its young population and demand for U.S. products.

McHargue noted that if Nebraska doesn't stay competitive in these markets, other countries will take its place. He also emphasized the benefits of ethanol exports, stating that it can provide real dollars back to farmers and ranchers.
