Canada Designates West Coast Pipeline as National Interest Project
The Canadian government has taken a significant step in advancing the proposed pipeline to transport oil from Alberta to the West Coast by designating it as a national interest project.
This move, announced on August 1 through a notice in the Canada Gazette, allows the government to fast-track approvals and bypass some environmental laws.
The proposed pipeline would span approximately 1,250 kilometers, carrying around one million barrels of crude oil from Bruderheim, Alberta to a port near Delta, British Columbia for export to international markets.
A notice published in the Canada Gazette sets a deadline of September 18 for comments on the national interest designation.
