Canada Doubles Down on LNG Export Capacity

LNG Canada has made a final investment decision to expand its facility in Kitimat, B.C., doubling its capacity to 28 million tonnes per year. This move will make LNG Canada one of the largest LNG facilities in the world and solidify Canada's position as a top LNG exporter.

The Phase 2 expansion is expected to create thousands of new jobs and opportunities for local businesses, First Nations, and communities. The project has received government support, with Prime Minister Mark Carney stating that 'high standards don't require slow decisions.'

LNG Canada's partners, including Shell and PetroChina, have had to weigh several factors before making the final go-ahead decision. They determined that there is sufficient demand for LNG in Asia and that Canada has plentiful gas reserves to feed the plant.
