Canada Doubles Down on LNG Exports with C$33 Billion Kitimat Expansion

The owners of Canada's first large-scale LNG export terminal have agreed to expand its capacity in British Columbia. The expansion, worth C$33 billion (US$23 billion), will double the facility's capacity and increase exports to overseas energy markets.

LNG Canada, the company behind the Kitimat project, has made a final investment decision on Phase 2 of the terminal. This phase will add two LNG processing units, another storage tank, and an additional loading berth to the existing infrastructure.

The expansion is expected to increase capacity to 28 million tons per year. The first phase of the project began exports last year, and this expansion aims to build on that momentum. By increasing its capacity, Canada will be able to supply more LNG to countries relying on fossil fuels for energy.
