Canada, France Eye LNG Partnership Amid Global Energy Disruptions
Canada and France are exploring an energy partnership focused on liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Canada's Pacific coast. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said that it is 'quite conceivable' for Canada to execute such a partnership with a European country, including France.
The development comes after leaders of the two countries met and discussed energy cooperation at the United Nations. French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly called for deeper energy cooperation with Canada amid disruptions in Middle East supplies and rising energy prices.
Canada shipped its first-ever LNG export cargo in June from the recently constructed LNG Canada facility in British Columbia, which is led by Shell and has direct access to the Pacific Ocean.
