Canada-Germany LNG Deal Strengthens Energy Partnership
Ksi Lisims LNG has signed a major long-term export deal with German energy company Uniper. The agreement, announced on July 29, 2026, will see Uniper purchase two million tonnes per year (Mtpa) of liquefied natural gas from the proposed floating facility north of Prince Rupert.
This is the first major long-term LNG supply agreement between Canada and Germany, and it represents a significant step in strengthening their strategic energy partnership. The project has already secured a number of major deals with other companies, including Shell and TotalÉnergies, bringing the total contracted capacity to 7 Mtpa out of a projected 12 Mtpa total capacity.
The backers of the project are looking for a commitment of 80 to 90 per cent of capacity (around 9-10 Mtpa) for a final investment decision. With this new deal, they may have taken an important step towards securing that decision.
