Canada Seeks East Coast Pipeline Expansion Amid Global Uncertainty

Canada's Northern Shield Energy Corridor proposal aims to transport 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta to Ontario. Premiers Doug Ford and Danielle Smith want to extend this pipeline to Saint John, New Brunswick, which would grant access to European markets.

Ford calls it a 'nation-building project' that would boost Canada's independence and sovereignty. He also wants the federal government to lead pipeline expansion eastward, mirroring its efforts on the West Coast with Trans Mountain Corp.

New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt has expressed support for pipelines, citing her desire to see infrastructure connecting coast-to-coast. The previous Energy East project was proposed in 2011 but scrapped due to opposition in Quebec.
