Canada Sees Opportunity in Global LNG Price Surge
A recent flare-up in global natural gas prices and supply shortages has sparked renewed interest in Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, particularly from BC's Kitimat facility.
LNG Canada reports that it has received numerous calls from Asian buyers seeking to purchase more LNG, but the company says all of its current output is already spoken for. However, CEO François Poirier sees this as an opportunity to expand production and meet growing global demand.
Dane Gregoris, energy director at Enverus Intelligence Research, believes that Canada could see a 'second wave' of LNG projects in the future, with up to six new facilities potentially coming online. He notes that Western Canada's geographic position makes it an attractive location for shipping LNG to Asia, reducing costs and emissions compared to transporting from other regions.
