Canada's LNG Output Set to Double with Kitimat Expansion

LNG Canada is set to give final approval for its Phase 2 expansion, which will double the output of its Kitimat export facility in British Columbia.

The company has spent months working through internal approvals with its joint venture partners Shell, PETRONAS, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp., and KOGAS.

Phase 2 is expected to increase production from 14 million tonnes per year to 28 million tonnes, making LNG Canada the world's second-largest LNG facility.

The federal government has been supportive of the project, providing $33 billion in private capital and improving the economics of Canadian LNG projects through extended export licenses and accelerated capital cost allowances for low-carbon facilities.
