Canadian Dollar Rises on Higher Inflation Rate and Stronger Oil Prices
The Canadian dollar strengthened on Monday morning, driven by unexpectedly high inflation data.
According to Statistics Canada, the country's consumer price index rose 3.0% annually in July, surpassing June's 2.8%. This increase was largely influenced by volatile gasoline prices.
When excluding gasoline, inflation stood at 2.2%, indicating that the price surge is largely due to energy costs.
In related news, crude oil prices rose 0.5% in early trading, with West Texas Intermediate increasing to US$82.83 per barrel.
