Canadian natural gas storage facilities are almost full ahead of what could be a warmer-than-usual winter, according to the latest data from Natural Gas Intel.

The market is preparing for an El Niño event, which may lead to lower heating demand during the upcoming winter months. This has resulted in lower prices for natural gas, particularly on the AECO winter basis, where supplies are deeply discounted.

In Alberta, inventories have reached 89% of capacity, indicating that storage facilities are nearing maximum levels. The El Niño event poses a threat to winter heating demand, which could further impact natural gas prices if temperatures remain higher than usual.
