Canadian Politicians Face Criticism Over Tariffs and Pipeline Policies

A recent letter to the editor from Wayne Brough in Belleville criticized Canadian politicians for imposing tariffs on American goods, saying it's just another tax on Canadians. He claims that since Donald Trump started imposing tariffs on Canada, the same politicians have been putting more tariffs on American goods.

Brough also took aim at Mark Carney and Doug Ford, saying they want the Canadian people to suffer so the government can come in and save the day. He warned that this will lead to a future where Canadians own nothing but are happy.

Another reader, Larry Comeau from Ottawa, chimed in on a different topic, criticizing the idea of resurrecting the Keystone XL pipeline. He pointed out that Trump had previously claimed Canada didn't have anything the U.S. wanted, forgetting about Alberta oil, which is sold at a huge discount to the U.S.

Comeau also noted that after spending billions on Keystone, TC Energy terminated it in 2021 and transferred ownership to South Bow Corporation in 2024, making it difficult to resurrect the pipeline quickly.
