CanAsia Energy Secures Funding for Long-Idle Sawn Lake Heavy Oil Project
CanAsia Energy Corp (TSXV:CEC), a Canadian heavy oil developer, has secured infrastructure financing to restart its long-idled Sawn Lake project in northern Alberta. The deal, announced on May 6, 2026, will fund the well pad and processing infrastructure as well as produced-water handling equipment needed for economical steam-to-oil ratios.
The company's subsidiary, Andora Energy Corporation, has already received a $9.5 million payment under this arrangement, which was confirmed on June 2, 2026. This milestone marks a significant step towards the project's restart after years of care and maintenance.
CanAsia's Sawn Lake project is a technically de-risked resource with established production methods for extra-heavy Alberta crude. The company plans to execute a staged, modular build-out aimed at an eventual 20,000 bopd capacity, incorporating produced-water boiler technology to reduce freshwater and energy intensity of steam generation.
