Canola Futures Plunge on Profit-Taking and Harvest Concerns

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) canola futures declined sharply on Friday due to profit-taking by speculative funds, according to an analyst. The funds currently hold a large long position in canola and are hesitant to maintain it as the harvest season approaches.

The analyst noted that if the funds do not adjust their positions, they would be left with significant losses when the oilseed's harvest is fully underway. This pressure was compounded by sharp losses in Chicago soyoil and modest declines in European rapeseed.

However, gains in crude oil, Chicago soybeans, soymeal, and Malaysian palm oil tempered the decline in canola prices. The November canola contract took a significant step down towards its 20-day moving average with today's losses.
