Canola Price Outlook Brightens as Flax and Mustard Prices Tumble
The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) report for September presents a positive outlook for canola prices, while other crops like flax, chickpeas, and mustard are expected to decline. The report provides supply and demand estimates, as well as geopolitical factors that may impact crop prices.
On durum wheat, the price estimate has increased by $10 per tonne from last month, but AAFC does not expect a significant premium to be maintained. The average price for No. 1 CWRS wheat is up by $10 a tonne and is $41 a tonne higher than last year's average.
Barley prices are expected to increase due to stronger U.S. corn prices, with the predicted price exceeding last year's average by more than $20 per tonne. Oat production is forecasted to decline, but the predicted oat price is up by $15 a tonne compared to last month.
The biggest move in the report is on canola, where the AAFC analysis has increased this crop year's predicted price by a whopping $55 a tonne. Flax prices are expected to drop due to larger world supply and lower exports.
