CANXPORT Opens in Prince Rupert, Bolstering Canadian Grain Exports
The CANXPORT facility in Prince Rupert, British Columbia has officially opened, marking a significant milestone for Canadian grain and agricultural exports. The project received nearly $50 million through the National Trade Corridors Fund, which aims to strengthen trade corridors and enhance supply chain resilience.
CANXPORT is designed to increase export capacity, improve transportation efficiency, and help Canadian products move more quickly to overseas buyers. With a container handling capacity of at least 400,000 containers annually, the facility will support a range of exports including forestry products, agricultural commodities, and plastic resins.
The facility's location on Ridley Island in British Columbia is particularly important for prairie grain exporters seeking efficient access to Asia-Pacific markets. Prince Rupert remains North America's closest port to Asia, providing shorter sailing times compared to many competing West Coast ports.
