Carney Designates Pacific Link Pipeline as National Interest Project
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has designated the Pacific Link pipeline a national interest project under the Building Canada Act, aiming to reduce US reliance and boost exports to Asian markets.
The proposed pipeline will carry an additional one million barrels of oil per day from Bruderheim, Alberta, to a deepwater port near Delta, British Columbia. This significant infrastructure project is expected to generate an estimated $30 billion annual boost to Canada's Gross Domestic Product and create up to 140,000 jobs.
The federal government has pledged to direct revenues toward national infrastructure, housing, and social programs, including healthcare and childcare. Indigenous participation has been integrated into the project's financial structure from its inception, with a minimum 10% ownership interest guaranteed for Indigenous communities.
