Carney Designates Pacific Link Pipeline as Project of National Interest
Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that the Pacific Link pipeline project will be designated as a project of national interest under the Building Canada Act.
The $35.2 billion to $43.7 billion project will carry up to one million barrels of crude oil per day from Bruderheim, Alberta, to a port near Delta, British Columbia for international shipment.
The federal and provincial governments will split the cost of the project with Trans Mountain Corp., while Pembina Pipeline Corporation has offered its expertise as a private sector investor. Indigenous communities will be offered at least 10 per cent ownership interest through loan programs.
