Carney Grants National Interest Designation to Alberta Pipeline Project
Prime Minister Mark Carney has granted national interest designation to the Alberta pipeline project, now known as Pacific Link. This move streamlines and simplifies rules, timelines, and oversight to help make the project a reality.
The goal is to get consultations and environmental safeguards in place for the line, which will haul Alberta oil to tankers on the B.C. coast. The designation doesn't mean the line is a done deal, but it's a significant step forward.
Carney made the announcement with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at his side in Fort McMurray, Alta., on Thursday.
