The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that its forces have facilitated the safe transport of over 1 billion barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz in recent months.

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said on September 19 that this significant milestone was achieved while assisting over 2,000 commercial ship transits through the strait by providing coordinated protection.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway used to transport one-fifth of the world's oil before the war in Iran started on February 28.

CENTCOM has also ensured that the Strait of Hormuz is clear of mines, and as a result, Iran has not been able to export any crude oil due to the US naval blockade.
