Centre Raises MSP for Wheat and Rabi Crops
The Centre has raised the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat and five other rabi crops for Marketing Season 2027-28. The MSP for wheat has been increased to ₹2,610 per quintal, a rise of ₹25 from last season's price of ₹2,585.
According to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), the prices have been raised as follows: barley by ₹136 per quintal, gram by ₹83 per quintal, lentil (masur) by ₹390 per quintal, rapeseed & mustard by ₹413 per quintal, and safflower by ₹675 per quintal.
The Centre aims to ensure that the MSP is at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average Cost of Production, as per the government's Union Budget 2018-19 policy.
Long-term procurement numbers show a significant increase in wheat procurement from 2014-15 to 2025-26, rising to 3,715 lakh metric tonnes compared to 2,254 lakh metric tonnes during 2004-05 to 2013-14. The MSP amount paid to wheat farmers over this period has also increased to ₹7.31 lakh crore.
