ČEZ Teplárenská to Launch Low-Emission Facilities at Poříčí Power Plant

ČEZ Teplárenská plans to launch new environmentally friendly biomass and natural gas facilities at its Poříčí Power Plant in 2029, marking a significant step towards decarbonizing district heating. The project will cost billions of crowns, with the company aiming to end coal combustion at the plant entirely.

The power plant, located near Trutnov, currently supplies heat to over 10,000 households and is among the largest in the Hradec Králové Region. The new facilities will ensure more efficient and environmentally friendly heat production for the region, according to Šárka Lapáčková Beránková, regional spokesperson for the ČEZ Group.

The biomass boiler house will have two boilers with a combined thermal capacity of 50 megawatts thermal (MWt), while the gas boiler house will feature two boilers with a combined thermal capacity of 64 MWt. The existing coal-fired boilers will be replaced, and the power plant will also receive new chimneys.

The conversion is part of ČEZ's plan to invest CZK 80 billion in decarbonizing and modernizing district heating by 2030. The company aims to end coal combustion in district heating entirely by the same year.
