CFTC Reports Divergent Sentiment in Commodity Futures

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released its weekly Commitments of Traders disaggregated futures-only report for the period ending September 22, 2026.

The data covers open interest and positioning across various categories for agricultural, energy, and metals contracts.

In the grains complex, Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) soft red winter wheat recorded an open interest of 483,279 contracts with producer/merchant longs at 62,011 and shorts at 130,865. Swap dealers held 90,765 long positions and 18,933 short positions.

Hard red winter wheat on the CBOT showed an open interest of 311,936 contracts with producer/merchant positions of 16,198 long and 124,186 short. Swap dealers held 82,569 long positions and 2,984 short positions.
