Challenger Unveils Growth Plan at JMM Gold Forum 2026
Challenger's management presented its growth plan at the JMM Gold Forum 2026, focusing on the Hualilán project in Argentina and El Guayabo gold-copper asset in Ecuador. The company highlighted strong project economics and a clear path to production, with commercial production targeted for 2029.
The May 2026 pre-feasibility study showed a 14-year mine life, 1.8 million ounces of gold equivalent production, and a staged development plan. At a $3,500 gold price, Hualilán carries a $1.1 billion net present value and about 35% internal rate of return.
Challenger has enough cash and debenture funding to operate through mid-2027 while it advances project financing for Hualilán. The company is also exploring El Guayabo, with a resource base of 9.1 million ounces of gold equivalent.
