The company celebrated the loading of a landmark cargo, highlighting years of steady operations. The liquefied natural gas export market is at a crossroads, driven by American shale abundance and global energy demand. Over the past decade, the United States has transitioned from being a marginal player to a top exporter. Cheniere pioneered this transformation by building the first large-scale export terminals and securing long-term contracts with buyers in Europe and Asia.
The company's model, which involves converting pipeline-delivered natural gas into a chilled liquid and shipping it to buyers worldwide under a mix of long-term contracts and spot sales, has insulated much of its cash generation from commodity price swings. Cheniere owns and operates liquefied natural gas export terminals on the Gulf Coast, anchored by its Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana and its Corpus Christi complex in Texas.
