Cheniere Energy Surges on Strong LNG Volumes and Margins
Cheniere Energy reported significant growth in its quarterly net income and revenue from liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales, largely driven by increased LNG volumes delivered and more favorable margins. The company's strong performance comes against a backdrop of sustained global demand for the fuel.
The US-based energy firm operates two large liquefaction complexes on the Gulf Coast and presents its business as predominantly focused on LNG exports, with regasification accounting for only a marginal share of revenue.
The increase in net income is also attributed to non-recurring effects tied to the accounting revaluation of derivative financial instruments linked to long-term gas supply contracts. This accounting component makes net income under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) more volatile than the underlying commercial trend would suggest.
