Chennai Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged Despite Cumulative Hike
The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai remained unchanged on September 27, 2026. Petrol was selling at Rs 107.77 per litre, while diesel cost Rs 99.55 per litre.
This stability comes after a series of increases since May 15, when the cumulative hike reached nearly Rs 7.5 per litre. The prices had remained largely unchanged since April 2022 until March 2024, when a Rs 2 per litre reduction was announced ahead of national elections.
The global crude oil price surge more than 50% since late February contributed to the price increase. State-run retailers delayed passing on higher input costs for weeks to shield consumers from inflation, according to the government. Opposition parties accused the administration of holding back price increases until after key state elections.
