The gold price in Chennai increased by Rs 160 per sovereign on August 18, making it now priced at Rs 1,14,320 per sovereign and Rs 14,290 per gram.

This marks an increase of Rs 20 per gram from the previous day's prices. In contrast, silver prices remained unchanged at Rs 255 per gram (Rs 2,55,000 per kg).

A comparison with last year shows that gold prices have risen significantly, increasing from Rs 74,200 per sovereign (Rs 9,275 per gram) on August 18, 2025, to the current price of Rs 1,14,320 per sovereign (Rs 14,290 per gram).

This marks a rise of about 54.07% in gold prices over the past year.
