Chevron has begun preparing for Tropical Depression Two by shutting-in production at its Petronius facility in the US Gulf of Mexico. The company is also transporting nonessential personnel from its Tubular Bells and Blind Faith platforms onshore.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued a tropical storm watch, warning of 2 to 4 inches of rainfall along the Gulf Coast, with isolated totals reaching up to 8 inches by Friday. The storm is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha later today.

According to Earth Science Associates, approximately 2 million barrels of oil could be lost across the US Gulf through the duration of the storm, a significant increase from the 10,000 barrels impacted by Tropical Storm Arthur last month.
