Chile Backs Codelco with Record Copper Price Support
Chile's copper market is facing significant pressure due to operational disruptions and export restrictions. To mitigate this, the government has decided to reinvest all of Codelco's 2025 profits in the company, totaling US$2.422 billion.
This move will support Codelco's operations and project portfolio, reducing its reliance on additional debt. The capitalization comes after recent statements from Codelco's Chairman Bernardo Fontaine stated that there was 'no possibility' of reaching the previous target of 1.7 million tonnes of copper per year within four to five years.
The company's production has been affected by project delays, lower-than-expected production, and operational setbacks. In addition to this, Codelco temporarily suspended the completion and development of the Andes Norte project and halted construction activities at the Diamante Project, both at the El Teniente Mine.
