China Boosts US Soybean Purchases Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit
The grain markets experienced a rally overnight, buoyed by reports of fresh China purchases of US soybeans and positive comments from US and Chinese officials ahead of this week's summit between Presidents Trump and Xi.
According to Bloomberg, China has bought at least four cargoes, about 260,000 tons, of US soybeans in the past week for loading in December and January from the Pacific Northwest and the US Gulf. This purchase is seen as a sign of further progress toward Beijing's pledge to boost purchases of American farm goods.
The trade truce between the two nations has been fragile, with significant purchases of other major crops, including wheat and corn, yet to materialize. However, agriculture has proven to be an area where the US and China have found common ground, offering tangible incentives to help build a more stable relationship.
