China Continues Gold Buying Streak Amid Dollar Uncertainty
China's central bank continued its gold buying streak in August, adding to its reserve portfolio as part of a long-term strategy to enhance financial security and support the renminbi's internationalization.
The People's Bank of China increased its gold reserves for the 22nd consecutive month, bringing its official holdings to 76.73 million ounces at the end of August.
This represents a monthly addition of 650,000 oz, the largest since October 2023 when the increment came in at 740,000 oz.
Experts say China's gold purchases are not driven by short-term price gains, but rather by a desire to hedge against uncertainties and reduce reliance on the dollar-based monetary system.
