China Oil and Gas Production Soars to Record Heights

China's oil and gas production reached an unprecedented record in 2025, driven by technological advancements, upstream structural changes, and a shift towards low-carbon energy. The National Energy Administration report revealed that domestic crude oil output set a new record at 216 million metric tons last year, with natural gas production increasing for the ninth consecutive year.

The combined oil and gas production equivalent rose to a fresh peak of 420 million metric tons, significantly enhancing China's energy independence and security. Internationally, global newly added recoverable oil and gas reserves totaled 1.32 billion tons of oil equivalent in 2025, a 5.6 percent rise from the prior year.
