China's gold imports are on track to reach an all-time high in 2026, surpassing last year's totals. According to Heraeus analysts, China imported 142 tonnes of gold in August alone, bringing the total for the first eight months of the year to 1,141 tonnes, a 72% increase over the same period in 2025.

The strong inflows are driven by continued investment demand and weak Chinese jewellery demand. If this pace continues, China's gold imports will reach approximately 1,700 tonnes by the end of the year, setting a new high for the decade.

Australia's gold mine production has also been steady, with 303 tonnes produced in fiscal year 2025-26. However, India's weak monsoon is expected to impact rural gold demand during the upcoming festival and wedding season, potentially depressing consumption by around 15%.
