China Strikes Copper and Gold in Anhui Province

China has made a significant discovery in its search for metals crucial to the solar power and new-energy industries. A major copper and gold deposit was found in Anhui province, with the main mineralised body measuring approximately 1.2km long and 1.1km wide.

The Chating deposit is estimated to contain the equivalent of several large copper deposits, each holding over 500,000 tonnes of copper. It could also hold more than 10 large gold deposits, each with at least 20 tonnes of gold.

Copper's conductivity makes it essential for powering grids, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence data centres. Gold is used in high-end electronics and aerospace equipment, and its role as a reserve asset has drawn attention from central banks amid economic uncertainty.
