China Sulphuric Acid Guidance Price Revised Based on Copper Concentrate Index

The Sulphuric Acid Association and Phosphate and Compound Fertilizer Association have jointly revised the guidance price formula for smelting sulphuric acid in China. The change, which takes effect from August 5, 2026, involves switching to an average of past three months' copper concentrate TCs instead of relying on 'latest copper concentrate TCs'. This decision was made after consulting with major enterprises and filing with the National Development and Reform Commission.

The revised formula uses the SMM Copper Concentrate Index as its basis. As a result, the August smelting sulphuric acid guidance price has been recalculated to 1,555 yuan/mt. For comparison, the previous months' guidance prices were 1,406 yuan/mt in May, 1,456 yuan/mt in June, and 1,574 yuan/mt in July.

The Sulphuric Acid Association and Phosphate and Compound Fertilizer Association have stated that this change aims to ensure fair and relatively stable prices for the industry. The decision is based on publicly available information, market communication, and SMM's internal database model.
