China Unleashes Record Gold Buying Spree as Prices Soar
China has imported over 1,100 tonnes of gold in just eight months, a record haul that already surpasses all of last year's imports. The country's General Administration of Customs reported that August gold imports hit an all-time high, with 44 tonnes added to the total. This brings China's year-to-date gold imports to 1,100 tonnes, worth $158.8 billion.
Goldman Sachs estimates that gold prices will reach $4,900 per ounce by the end of the year, citing strong central bank demand and a recovery in private investor ETF demand. However, analysts also note that Federal Reserve interest rate hikes could curb growth, potentially sending gold prices lower to around $4,440 per ounce.
Experts agree that ordinary American investors should take their cue from China's aggressive gold-import strategy and consider increasing their own gold holdings. Brett Elliott, director of marketing at American Precious Metals Exchange, advises Americans to 'consider increasing their gold holdings' due to the inevitability of currency debasement.
