China's August Corn Imports Surge 784%, Exerting Bearish Pressure on Domestic Supplies
The General Administration of Customs in China has released data showing that the country imported a significant amount of corn and corn flour in August, a surge of 784% compared to the same period last year. The import volume reached 320,000 tonnes.
This increase in imports has put pressure on domestic corn supplies, leading to bearish pressure on spot prices. In the futures market, the closing price for the dominant corn contract (2611) on the Dalian Commodity Exchange was 2,192 RMB/tonne on September 17, down 11 RMB/tonne from the previous trading day.
The strong momentum in short-position accumulation indicates a clear downward trend for futures prices. This has also led to expectations that domestic corn starch production costs will decrease, exerting bearish pressure on starch prices.
