China's Gold Reserves Surpass 76 Million Ounces as International Prices Soar
The People's Bank of China has continued to increase its gold reserves for the 21st consecutive month, accelerating its pace of purchases in July.
According to recent data from the People's Bank of China, as of the end of July 2026, the bank held 76.08 million ounces of gold reserves, an increase of 640,000 ounces from the end of June.
This represents a significant acceleration in the pace of gold buying, with the monthly addition exceeding June's 480,000 ounces.
The foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 3.4188 trillion, up by USD 2.5 billion or 0.07% from the end of June.
The recent resurgence in international gold prices has further reinforced market attention on gold's medium- to long-term allocation value, with spot gold briefly surpassing USD 4,300 per ounce this week, the highest level since June.
