China's Gold Rush Bolsters Prices as Central Bank Demand Continues
Chinese institutional investors have been buying gold in significant amounts, helping to maintain prices above $4,000 per ounce. This comes as China's central bank reported its 20th consecutive monthly increase in gold holdings in June.
The People's Bank of China added 480,000 ounces of gold to its reserves last month, the largest monthly acquisition since October 2023. The ongoing demand from China is seen as a crucial factor in supporting gold prices at current levels.
Markets have noted a slight increase in the probability of gold reaching significant price milestones by year-end, with some predicting it could hit $15,000 per ounce. However, this remains unlikely according to market pricing, which puts the possibility at 2.5%.
