China's Metal Market Plummets as Base Metals Decline
Metals in China's domestic market declined broadly at midday on August 25. Base metals fell across the board, with SHFE copper edging up 0.16% and SHFE zinc rising 0.25%. However, SHFE aluminum dropped 0.19%, SHFE lead fell 0.43%, and SHFE tin plummeted 0.66%. Nickel rose 0.75%.
Cast aluminum futures rose 0.13%, while alumina futures declined 1%. Lithium carbonate futures fell a significant 5.11%, with polysilicon futures dropping 1.47%. Silicon metal futures increased by 0.29%.
Ferrous metals showed mixed performance, with iron ore trading flat at 715.5 yuan/mt and rebar rising 0.13%. Hot-rolled coil rose 0.39%, but stainless steel fell 1.12%. Coking coal declined 2.56%, and coke slipped 1.35%.
Overseas, LME metals broadly decreased, with copper, aluminum, lead, and zinc all falling within 0.2%. LME tin inched up 0.04%, while nickel dropped 0.38%.
