China's gold imports have reached an impressive milestone, surpassing 1,000 tons for the first eight months of this year. This is a significant increase over last year's total, and it indicates that investors are flocking to gold in record numbers.

The strength of the yuan and the decline in international gold prices have made gold imports more attractive to Chinese buyers. According to Wu Zijie, an analyst at Jinrui Futures, robust investment demand has led to a slight premium for domestic gold trading over world prices.

With the central bank's stepped-up gold buying, retail appetite for gold has also increased. This favorable market environment is expected to continue, with regulators having room to grant bigger quotas for gold imports.
