Chinese Stocks Plummet to 13-Month Low Amid Oil and Rate Concerns
Mainland Chinese stocks took a significant hit on Monday, plummeting to their lowest level in 13 months. The CSI 300 Index dropped by 2.2% to close at a level not seen since August 21 last year. The sell-off was driven by concerns over elevated global capital costs and surging oil prices.
The chip-heavy Star Market 50 index was particularly hard hit, tumbling 4.1% in the day's trading. This marked its steepest single-day decline in five weeks and brought it close to the low reached during July's technology rout.
The Hang Seng Index bucked the trend, however, rising by 0.5%. The index's performance was a rare bright spot in an otherwise gloomy market.
