The Port of Churchill has resumed grain exports after a six-year hiatus, marking a significant milestone in Western Canadian agriculture. On September 1, 2026, a vessel carrying approximately 30,000 tonnes of Canadian durum wheat supplied by AGT Foods departed for Europe.

This is the first of three grain vessels expected to use the port this season, reflecting a growing partnership between Arctic Gateway Group (AGG) and AGT Foods. The Port of Churchill has an important role to play in connecting Western Canadian producers and resources to global markets.

Minister Rebecca Chartrand noted that Canada is focusing on building strength at home and diversifying trade to reduce reliance on single trading partners. The return of grain exports is seen as another example of what this northern corridor can deliver.

The Port of Churchill is also handling shipments of zinc concentrate and its first-ever potash exports destined for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, making it a significant trade gateway and Arctic supply hub. AGG continues major modernization efforts across the port and the Hudson Bay Railway, including wharf rehabilitation and grain-handling infrastructure upgrades.
