CME Group's around-the-clock gold futures trading mechanism saw strong market demand in its debut weekend, with nearly 15,000 lots of 1-ounce gold futures contracts changing hands.

The notional value of these trades reached approximately $60 million, indicating that retail investor enthusiasm for around-the-clock gold trading products has far exceeded expectations.

Jin Hennig, CME Group's Global Head and Managing Director of Metals, said the launch demonstrates that retail traders are ready and waiting for a regulated, appropriately sized, around-the-clock product to manage their gold exposure.

The 1-ounce gold futures contract was designed specifically for the retail investor segment and has seen strong momentum since its introduction in January 2025, with an average daily volume of 87,000 lots in the first half of 2026.
