CNG Price Hike Hits Mumbai Residents Amid West Asia Crisis
Mumbai residents can expect higher CNG and domestic PNG prices from September 1, as Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) announced a price hike. The company increased CNG by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 88 and PNG by Rs 1 per SCM.
The price revision is attributed to rising input gas costs due to the Middle East crisis, which has affected international gas prices. MGL stated that it needs to source Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) at higher prices to meet growing CNG demand, resulting in a considerable increase in input cost.
The price hike will impact around 13 lakh CNG vehicles and 30 lakh domestic PNG consumers in Mumbai and surrounding areas. MGL said the Rs 2 per kg increase will only partially offset the higher input costs.
