Maharashtra's Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Re 1, effective from October 1. This hike brings the CNG price to Rs 89 per kg for vehicles across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). MGL attributes this increase to a rise in input gas costs due to higher prices of domestically produced gas and imported Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.

The company says that with this price revision, it will partially offset the increase in the cost of input gas and maintain a sustained supply of natural gas to its customers. The CNG price hike affects nearly 12.93 lakh vehicles across the MMR, including auto-rickshaws, taxis, private vehicles, and those operated by transport authorities.

MGL has been increasing the CNG prices over the past few months, with a Rs 2 per kg hike in September taking it to Rs 88 per kg from Rs 86 per kg. The company will continue to explore ways to optimise gas procurement while promoting natural gas as a cleaner fuel alternative.
