CNG Rollout Expands in Nigeria Amid Oil and Gas Value Chain Improvements

Nigeria's compressed natural gas (CNG) rollout expanded significantly in August 2026, with the number of operational refueling stations rising to 176 and vehicle conversions reaching 78,900, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The factsheet showed that 65 conversion centers were operational nationwide during the month, while 15,300 conversion kits had been distributed under the national CNG program. This reflects continued expansion of alternative fuel infrastructure.

Nigeria's oil and gas value chain also saw broader improvements in August, including higher crude oil production, stronger domestic refining activity, and increased supply of petroleum products and cooking gas.
